Phoenix has 348 public charging stations as of mid-2026, the smallest count among the five cities in The Juice Index’s national expansion batch relative to its population — but Phoenix is also the largest metro in this group, and the real story is what charging in the desert actually requires.
The Heat Is the Story
Every charging consideration in Phoenix runs through summer heat. DC fast charging sessions taper more aggressively above 105°F as battery thermal management works harder, and a car that sat in direct sun for hours starts a fast-charging session worse off than the same car in Seattle in January. None of the 224 ChargePoint stations or 65 Blink stations across the metro change that — shade and timing matter here in a way they simply don’t in the Pacific Northwest.
Camelback Corridor and Biltmore
The Camelback Corridor and Biltmore area have the city’s densest retail and office Level 2 coverage, serving the same office-worker and shopper charging pattern as comparable corridors in any Sun Belt city. The E Camelback Rd Tesla Supercharger (16 stalls) anchors DC fast charging for this part of town.
Tempe and the East Valley
Tempe, home to Arizona State University, has a younger, denser charging footprint than the rest of the metro — more Level 2 at apartment complexes and campus-adjacent retail. The E Mayo Blvd Tesla Supercharger, with 20 stalls, is the largest fast-charging site in the metro, in the northeast part of the valley near the Mayo Clinic campus.
Getting Around the Valley
Phoenix’s sprawl means charging stops are a real part of cross-valley trip planning in a way they aren’t in a denser city. The Agua Fria Fwy Supercharger (16 stalls) covers the west valley; W Peoria Ave and West Happy Valley Rd (16 stalls each) cover the north.
Planning Notes
If you’re driving electric in Phoenix between May and September, treat shade and timing as part of your charging plan, not an afterthought. A fast-charging stop at 2pm in July behaves differently than the same stop at 8am.
