Portland is the EV charging hub for the entire Oregon portion of the Cascadia corridor. The city has strong Tesla Supercharger coverage, a dense ChargePoint Level 2 network, and Electrify America stations that have performed better here than in many other markets. It is a reliable staging point for trips east on I-84 or south on I-5.

Pearl District and Inner West Side

The Pearl District has the most concentrated Level 2 coverage in the city. The Ecotrust building on NW 10th, the Park Avenue West tower, and multiple Pearl parking garages have ChargePoint stations. The Kearney Street Supercharger is the go-to fast charge in the inner westside — 12 stalls, well-maintained, walking distance to several restaurants.

Lloyd District and Inner East Side

The Lloyd District EVgo station at the Lloyd Center mall is the primary fast-charging option on the east side. It has 8 CCS stalls. Reliability has improved significantly since 2023 — recent PlugShare check-ins are generally positive. The Oregon Convention Center area has additional ChargePoint Level 2 in the parking structures.

Hawthorne and Division have lighter Level 2 coverage but sufficient for a meal-length stop at several restaurants along SE Division. The Fred Meyer on Hawthorne has a reliable ChargePoint station.

Beaverton and the West Hills

Washington Square has one of the best suburban EV charging setups in the metro: a combined Tesla Supercharger plus Electrify America station in the mall parking lot. The EA station has been among the more reliable EA installations in Oregon. Beaverton has solid ChargePoint coverage at major retail centers.

Lake Oswego

Lake Oswego has good Level 2 coverage for a suburb of its size — the Kruse Way corridor office parks have ChargePoint workplace chargers accessible to visitors, and the Oswego Lake area retail has public stations.

Portland to the Columbia Gorge

Heading east from Portland on I-84, the Troutdale Supercharger is the last reliable fast charger before the Gorge. The Columbia Gorge itself has limited charging until Hood River (approximately 60 miles east). Hood River has ChargePoint L2 and a Tesla Destination Charger at several hotels. This is a critical planning segment — do not leave Portland below 80% if you are heading deep into the Gorge.

Getting Through Portland on a Road Trip

If you are passing through Portland on I-5 southbound (Seattle to the Bay Area), the Tigard Supercharger just south of Portland on I-5 is the standard stop. It is better positioned than downtown Portland for transit routing and avoids city traffic. The Jantzen Beach station is the I-5 northbound equivalent.
